Our legal system about online gambling:-
Before few years a judgment have been passed in the Hon’ble court in the matter of M/s Gaussian networks Pvt. Ltd. v. Monica Lakhanpal and State of NCT wherein the court held that any game of skill or game of luck which have money or stake on bet is not considered to be illegal if the same is played on the online platform but one thing which they also mentioned in the same judgement giving it clarity on their order is that, in case there is any physical gambling in any sort of game or sports then same shall be considered illegal.
Although they made it clear that any gaming site is not allowed to promote online gambling at all. Playing games like rummy, ludo or anything else wherein money is involved is permitted but joining hands for winning hands in order to promote gambling in online gaming is still not allowed.
Although the online gambling have a different legal preposition throughout the country depending and varying from state to state as the same is considered as a state affair and is regulated by the Public gambling act 1867 but prior to this act same was considered as central public gambling act 1867 which was regulated by central government but in current time rules on gambling is been proposed and regulated by respective state governments.
Therefore, the gambling laws are complex and one needs to follow up with their state rules with respect to the same.
